Gas Station Vent-Cap Installation Program
Goal: Reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions
On-road and off-road vehicle emissions account for more than half of the VOC emissions in
Dane County.
This is the first time in
Madison that a significant number of gas stations now have environmentally-friendly caps to hold in harmful gas vapors.
This project, funded by
Madison Gas & Electric (MG&E), has outfitted 50 of the 77 gas stations in Madison with pressure-vacuum vent caps on their large underground gasoline storage tanks.
These caps hold in gasoline vapors, reducing VOC emissions by about 3.9 tons per year.
