Biodiesel School Bus Fuel Incentive Purchase Program
Goal: Reduce volatile organic compound and fine particle emissions
The
Wisconsin Soybean Association
and
Dane County are funding
Wisconsin's first school bus biodiesel fuel incentive purchase program,
administered by the
Wisconsin Department
of Public Instruction. The program provides Dane County school districts and private
bus companies with rebates to pay the difference between regular diesel and biodiesel fuel.
Biodiesel fuel is a blend of conventional diesel fuel and biodiesel (typically soybean oil),
estimated to reduce particulate matter, carbon monoxide and VOC emissions by up to 20 percent.
In addition to the air quality benefits, the program will grow the local biodiesel market,
enabling market penetration for biodiesel producers and distributors.
The
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture,
Trade and Consumer Protection will provide technical assistance to participants through its
Alternative Fuels Program.
